Miller Urban Entrepreneur Series

Shouts to Becca the Promo Mami for the heads up on this one. Don't Sleep Boppers!!!!!

Thanks to the lovely Janice Bond, I just got this EXCELLENT gig with Miller/Coor Urban Entrepreneur Series. If you are an urban entrepreneur between the ages of 21-35, this is definitely right up your alley. Submit your Business Plan to the Miller Urban Entrepreneur Series and you could be awarded up to $50,000 to grow your business. Don't miss out on this. Details:

Entering its ninth consecutive year, the Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series (MUES) continues to expand and evolve. Providing opportunities to win one of four $25,000 business grants or the grand prize $50,000 grant, aspiring entrepreneurs—tomorrow’s business moguls—can take their businesses to the next level. To date, Miller has awarded nearly one million dollars in grant money to viable businesses.

The two-part MUES program, consists of a Business Plan Competition and Seminar Series, which this year has morphed into a Webinar series, as Miller continues to change with the times, reaching the next generation of urban entrepreneurs through viral communication methods. Webinar topics will include: "Putting a Brilliant Idea to Paper: Developing a Workable Business Plan"; "You Do the Math: Understanding Your Financials"; and "Inc. Versus LLC: Choosing the Right Legal Structure".

Entries can be submitted beginning this July and the deadline for entries is 5:00 p.m. CST, December 1st. For more information, questions or comments, as well as helpful tips and additional new features, visit http://www.millermues.com or e-mail us at mues@flowerscomm.com.

The Deadline is December 1st!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

*Does my business have to be established in order to apply to the Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series Business Plan competition?

No, your business does not have to actually be in existence. The plans are judged based on their content, viability of the business and thoroughness of the plan.

*I am not a U.S. citizen. Am I still eligible for the competition?

The Miller Urban Entrepreneur Series Business Plan Competition is open only to United States citizens.

*What are some issues that could possibly disqualify my business plan?

You will be disqualified if you have NOT:
• Included multiple copies of the business plan (6 copies are required) • Included proper identification (proof of age—must be between 21-35) • Included all of the required components • Submitted the plan by the posted deadline (must be received by December 1, 2008) • Followed the rules implicitly, including formatting requirements

*I do not have a current Tax ID number. Can I use my Social Security Number on my application instead?

Yes. If you have not acquired a Tax ID number, you may use your Social Security Number. And if you have multiple business partners, each partner must provide their individual Social Security numbers.

*My business had more than one owner. Do I need to put everyone’s name on the application?

Yes, everyone who is an owner of the business that is mentioned in the business plan needs to be on the application along with all their necessary contact information.

*I did not actually write my business plan myself. Can I still enter the competition?

Yes, as long as the person who wrote the plan is aware of you entering the contest and you are the legal owner of the business. You also must be able to explain and have full knowledge of the contents of the business plan.

*Why is there an age restriction?

The MUES program has been designed to assist the up-and-coming entrepreneur (typically a first-time business owner) who traditionally does not have access to conventional funding due to a lack of resources and loan collateral.

*My birthday falls during the judging process and I will be over the age limit. Can I still enter?

Unfortunately, if you are over the age limit prior to submitting the application you will be immediately disqualified, unless you have a partner who is in the required age group and who holds at least 50 percent of the ownership.

*I submitted my business plan last year and was not a finalist. Can I re-submit the same plan this year?

Yes, it is possible to re-submit the same plan this year. As long as you meet the current requirements and never been chosen as a finalist, you can enter and re-submit as many times as you would like.
