Soulful Sundaes: Death Cab For Cutie - Grapevine Fires

Before we get into this, I gotta say that Death Cab is by far the dopest band out. I need to start incorporating more of their music into the blog, as I feel we've been focusing a bit too much on hip-hop. Death Cab IS Seattle!!!

Now when I FIRST heard this song a month ago...it brought so many emotions to mind. It is a VERY VERY powerful song and has such a deeper meaning than the lyrics themselves. Enlightened symphonies indeed. Undeniably amazing. And I must say that as much as I loved the song, when I saw this video it almost made me cry. If it really IS based on a true story....MAN..Hearts go out is all I have to say. ENJOY.

*DOWNLOAD THIS VIDEO HERE!*

Walter Robot created the masterpiece video for the song, and if you haven't seen any of his other work, I'll be glad to make this weeks Soulful Sundae Robot-HEAVY! Stay tuned kids..and of course..

Welcome to Soulful Sundaes.

The Fuck Clay Bennet Bill

Mad props to the homie AB from the proof on this one.

When you call, you'll speak to a representative and they'll take your message down and deliver it to your elected officials. I'm a shy dude, but to see Chris Paul up in this bitch, it's worth it. Call, voice your support.

Finally a few of our elected officials got off their asses and proposed a bill to fund Seattle Center improvements, which would give us a really good shot at getting Chris Paul/OJ Mayo in a Sonics uniform in the next couple years.

CALL THE STATE LEGISLATIVE HOTLINE AND VOICE YOUR SUPPORT NOW!

Leg. Hotline # = 800-562-6000

But when you call, don't mention anything about basketball. The key to getting this passed is focusing on the other areas of need addressed by this bill. Including:

- JOB CREATION! – Construction, Service, Tourism, Restaurant, etc.

- A dedicated funding source for sorely needed infrastructure improvements at Seattle Center.

- Funding for cultural centers, performing arts, youth recreation and low-income housing.

- The opportunity to remodel a public building (KeyArena) with 50% private money.

- And last but not least… the evil bastard Clay Bennett will officially be on the hook for $30 million to Seattle!

IF YOU WANT A TEAM BACK, CALL 800-562-6000 IN SUPPORT OF SB #6116 NOW!

Some excerpts from the bill:

In a county with a population of one million five hundred thousand or more … authorized to levy and collect a special excise tax of not to exceed two percent on the sale of or charge made for the furnishing of lodging…

… “capital improvement projects” may include, but not be limited to a stadium restaurant facility, restroom facilities, artificial turf system, seating facilities, parking facilities and scoreboard and information system adjacent to or 15 within a county owned stadium, together with equipment, utilities, accessories and appurtenances necessary thereto.

… for art museums, cultural museums, heritage museums, heritage and preservation programs, the arts, and the performing arts.

… Stadium purposes as authorized under subsection (2)(b) of this section; acquisition of open space lands; youth sports activities; and tourism promotion.

… for the purchase, design, construction, and remodeling of performing arts, visual arts, heritage, and cultural facilities, and for the purchase of fixed assets that will benefit art, heritage, and cultural organizations…

As used in this section, “tourism promotion” includes activities intended to attract visitors for overnight stays, arts, heritage, and cultural events, and recreational, professional, and amateur sports events…

The county shall not lease a public stadium that is financed directly or indirectly by bonds to which the tax is pledged to, or authorize the use of the public stadium by, a professional major league sports franchise unless the sports franchise gives the right of first refusal to purchase the sports franchise, upon its sale, to local government…

The legislative authority of a county with a population of one million five hundred thousand or more may impose a special stadium sales and use tax upon retail car rentals within the county that are taxable by the state under chapters 82.08 and 82.12 RCW…

(Section 6)

Money deposited in a special purposes account under this section may be used only for the following purposes within the county:

(1) Funding tourism promotion as defined in RCW 67.28.080;

(2) Funding youth or amateur sports activities or facilities;

(3) Funding regional centers or performing arts centers, but excluding regional centers or performing arts centers within: (a) Cities with a population of one hundred thousand or more; and (b) Cities described in RCW 35.57.010;

(4) Maintaining or improving publicly owned stadiums or arenas;

(5) Funding community development; and/or

(6) Funding low-income housing.

Seattle is crowned the most wired city in America!

Emerald City ftw bidges!!!!!!!!!

From Engadget:

"Seattle takes the lead in our annual list of the most broadband-connected U.S. cities.

While these marquee names have long lent the Emerald City tech-y cachet, it was Seattle's increased use of broadband that powered it up Forbes' annual list of the 30 most broadband-connected cities in the U.S. High marks in two other wired city categories--broadband access and wi-fi hot spots--helped Seattle clinch the top spot.

Yahoo! Buzz-Since 2007, Forbes has measured cities' wired quotient by computing the percentage of Internet users with high-speed connections and the number of companies providing high-speed Internet. Since many urban residents access the Internet by wi-fi, we also measure the number of public wireless Internet hot spots in a particular city.

Our formula remains the same as previous years with one exception: the addition of broadband penetration data from Scarborough Research. The change was made to complement similar data from Nielsen Online.

Washington, D.C., rocketed from No. 11 last year to a solid No. 3. Like Seattle, it made dramatic progress in its broadband adoption rate. It also improved its wi-fi hot spot showing to rank second only to Seattle. "

I'm super surprised Atlant is up there. I guess magic city has to keep track of all their "business associates" somehow.

HOTlanta! lol.

Instead of that SeaHawk SILLINESS!!!! Some Raider highlights.

It's almost that time.  You know it's time to get ready to root for your favorite NFL team when Madden is about to hit the shelves.  Week one of the pre-season is outta tha way.  Now it's officially the time for fans to talk exaggerated shit to each other because it's no way we can tell who is who yet.  Now, my turn to ruffle some FEATHERS, GO RAIDERS!  HAH! Yea, you damn straight I'm a Raider fan.  F**k all your other teams!  And those birds who stay in the cold who will NOT DO SH*T THIS YEAR!!!   I'm kiddin', they'll be pretty good.  Be prepared for me to do alot of week one analysis this year.  Football is my cup of tea.. Anyway!

Raiders VS 49ers, pre-season week 1..

Well anyway, I can't wait til this season starts, cuz I love how Darren McFadden HITS THE HOLE!  An SEC version of Reggie Bush, meanin' bigger, stronger, may be a tid bit slower.  But unlike Bush.  Mr. McFadden HITS THE HOLE, with no hesitation, and he's fast as hell, can't wait to see 'em break one.  It's still a rebuildin' year for us.
