Yall remember this cat? The guy who wasn't as buff. Wearin' Dickey pants with no shirt on n sportin' a headband. Of course you don't know this guy. This is Ferrari F. 50. And he's back!
Na, but seriously, listenin' to the latest 50 mixtape reminded me of how he use to be.. Only a few better, with a great, original sound. Now don't get me wrong, Curtis is still a great artist, but when Curtis was hungry, when he was rippin' n runnin' round NY poppin' shots like say... Uncle Murder.. 50 was great. I mean, I was startin' to listen to 50's shit more than I listened to Jay-Z, and for anybody who knows me personally, that's sayin' alot. Say what you want about 50 now, but 50, at any given time will show flashes of that old hunger and brilliance. Like this latest mixtape, "Funeral Music" (The song where he buried Cam'Ron), "Ski Mask Way," among a few others. Now worldwide, "Get Rich Or Die Tryin' " is a classic, pretty much, and it's no disagreements yada yada. I can live with that. But me personally, although I thought it was a tight-ass album, I didn't dubb it a classic. Why Fresh? Well, because I was a fan before 50 blew up. Me and Mr. Check (the boss of this blog) was bumpin' the CD previous to GRDT (Guess Who's Back.) more than GRDT when EVERYBODY was playin' it. 50 had so much brilliance and originality it was crazy. He wasn't slingin' those half ass, superthugg lines he'll give on the regular now. He was very clever with his lines, very witty. To me he had the best Jay-Z diss I've heard "Be A Gentlemen." I'd put up any of his old mixtapes or radio joints up against anybody's collection of music, and 50 would put up a hell-of-a-fight if he didn't win. But, y'know.. Niggas go Diamond, n add a few more platinum plaques, and a big ego, he isn't hungry anymore.. I was so disappointed with 50 when he put out "Curtis" because he was showin' flashes of the old Fif on songs leadin' right up to the album. And he was claimin' it was the best shit he ever did. But then again, this was before he named it "Curtis," it was still "Before I Self Destruct." So personally, CUUUURTIIIISS hurt my feelin's. So now he teases me with this new great mixtape, even though he don't actually rap that much.. But it's a DAMN good CD.. (It'll get more spins in my car than the Carter III.) So I'm beggin' ya Fif.. Switch it back to the old style mayne.. What more do ya hafta prove?!
Suggested CDs/ Mixtapes - Guess Who's Back, God's Plan, Power Of The Dollar, 50 Cent Is The Future, and the new mixtape... Sincerely Yours, SouthSide.
I already know The Boss will prolly love this post.
