Soulful Sundaes: Robin Thicke - Sex Therapy

The wardrobes in this video are FREAKIN amazing, not to mention this may be one of the sexiest songs of the last decade. The overall art and shooting of the video is super elegant, and at the same time extremely sensual. It will certainly get the candles lit! That's real talk. Splendid addition to the iTunes V-Day playlist.

McClarronDEUX

We teamed up with one of our long-time supporters & homies, KANYE WEST, to bring you an awesome fund-raising auction on Karmaloop.com to help kick off our newest site: KarmaSwap.com & raise money for the Kanye West Foundation!!!

The most highly anticipated, completely sold-out sneaker of 2009, the AIR YEEZY is now up for auction at KARMALOOP.COM and not only that, it’s an exclusive 1-of-1 pair autographed by the Grammy winning artist & designer behind the shoes, KANYE WEST, himself!!!

The shoe, which takes Kanye West’s nickname Yeezy, draws upon the innovations from Nike’s rich sporting history and fuses them with original lines, materials, and design elements that reflect West’s unique style. My dudes @sotacrew coming at cha..Gotta say that Common Senses is my jam.

Thank y'all for continued support, here's the latest from us..!

SOTA presents The ‘Hank Moody’ EP, a collection of three songs [most of which] were written and recorded while living at a studio in Santa Monica in September. The past few months have been eye-opening to say the least, and we are working on some truly incredible music. We wanted to drop you something in the meantime that feels very specific to that period of time for us and represents the hopes and desires of life in L.A. despite the dirtier reality the city brings to the table. In the end, we remain Californicated. We are Hank Moody.

M.I.A.

And no I'm not talking about the singer. Lately, you have noticed there have been little to no bomb drops. Well the truth is there have been a few Power Summit's and there has been a cease-fire temporarily set into place. We are currently negotiating terms with new countries(blog hosts) and will soon be advancing(moving) from Blogger to a new home. The blogger format has been acting up quite a lot lately anyway, and I personally have grown tired of having to deal with it. It makes it that much harder to post something interesting and cool with having to deal with format issues on the pictures, or tagging issues for the labels. Or worse the whole thing just not saving and erasing. I promise you that although we have lost MUUCHHH steam that we will NEVER be gone forever.

On the underworking of things Drop-Bomb is acutally very much alive, but because so much background work has been going down, you have seen a lack of acutal blog postings, and of course, that ever so neccesary site update we have been promising you for quite a while now. I promise you its coming. We of course would LOVE your feedback with that too. If you know of any places that offer some dope premium hosting, and also any web designers or architects out there that would like to join in the mission for a new Drop-Bomb.com please feel free to email is at DropBombBlog@gmail.com We are also working on purchasing "http://www.dropbomb.com" thats right now hyphen. Except for the DJ. Anyway, that's my time for now, I'm gonna post a few things to day to keep it fresh of course, and I'll see ya'll on the other side!!!

Seasons Greetings.

Sufjan Stevens gives up on 50 State Album Project

VIA the Pitchfork:

It has now been more than four years since Sufjan Stevens released Illinois, the second album in his proposed 50 States project. Sufjan had claimed that he was going to release an album in honor of every one of our United States. But at this rate, unless he picked up the pace drastically, he wasn't likely to ever finish the project, unless he lived to be about 200.

In a recent interview with Paste, Stevens admits that the entire ambitious concept was "such a joke."

Stevens told Paste, "The whole premise was such a joke, and I think maybe I took it too seriously. I started to feel like I was becoming a cliché of myself."

In that same interview, Stevens talks about how his focus turned toward his recent multimedia project The BQE, which consumed his attention after Illinois: "In all honesty, [The BQE] is what really sabotaged my creative momentum. It wasn't Illinois so much. I suffered sort of an existential creative crisis after that piece. I no longer knew what a song was and how to write an album. It overextended me in a way that I couldn't find my way back to the song."

Elsewhere in the interview, Stevens expresses what sounds like a total lack of interest in the album as an art form: "I'm wondering, why do people make albums anymore when we just download? Why are songs like three or four minutes, and why are records 40 minutes long? They're based on the record, vinyl, the CD, and these forms are antiquated now. So can't an album be eternity, or can't it be five minutes? ... I no longer really have faith in the album anymore. I no longer have faith in the song."

Looks like it might be a while before we hear any albums from Sufjan Stevens, let alone any albums in the 50 States project.

A Fresh BreakDown - Jay-Z : The Blueprint 3

"Hov on that new shit, niggas like how come, niggas want my old shit, buy my old album"

Anybody want to be successful in the rap game? Follow Jay-Z's career blueprint. Nobody can deny after 13 years, he's still on top of his game, and he knows how to stay relevant. When Mr. Carter dropped "D.O.A.," all people took notice. Some cried foul, people like me, rejoiced. But we also heard was Hov at least can get our attention still, but most are wondering, is he about to wear this "Blueprint" title out and possibly ruin it, or does he surge back up to the top in this young man's game?

"Oh they call me a camel, but I mastered the drought, WTF I'm an animal"

By 1st looking at the cover of BP3, with the unique cover, and the features on his tracklist, one would probably imagine this CD was gonna be different. Jay-Z opens up the CD on "What We Talkin' Bout", old man Jay gets alil' help on the hook, but with a futuristic bass backdrop and a smooth transition of words, he's gets his point across quite ell. It sounds more like a shot at nay-sayers / bloggers (aint everything aimed at bloggers these days? ) And towards the end of the track, it seemed like he could've been getting on the heads of some old / former buddies. I was thinking Peedi Crack since he did publicly diss him.

"They think I'm outta shape so I hafta jog they memory"

A common theme in this CD Jay-Z was trying to get at was "I still got it", and he did address some old grudges in this CD, most come in the form of vintage subliminal Jay, and it's some not so subliminal but alittle obvious. In the "Thank You" in his last verse, you can argue that Jimmy, Dipset, and The Game caught a few shots, as he goes in and parrallels their career with the 9/11 attacks. "Not only did they brick, they put a buildin' up as well, then ran a plan into that building, and when that building fell... " Just listen to the rest of the verse, and if you can't at least respect it, you're just hating, plain and simple.

In every since of the theme I stated Jay was trying to get at, he makes an obvious song "Reminder". He got at the critics of his career, people on the "he's washed up / old bandwagon". It also seems as if he got tired of taking the sucker-punch from Joe Budden. "As if, I'ma let you niggas style on me, as if everybody's senile on me, throw backs, I threw 'em back, remember those button ups? Young Hov, tell the ordinary Joes to Budden up... Ain't nothing changed but the year it is"

What goes hand in hand when some athelete or rapper claiming "they still got it", is them having to compete / work with the younger cats. And Jay-Z does do that al throughout the CD. Kanye wouldn't count since he's been around for a bit, but getting the likes of Kid Cudi, Drake, Jay Cole I'll dive into those songs in a minute.

In the midst of this young man's game, Jay felt he should get the help of Alicia Keys for "Empire State of Mind". Reminding people of his trend setting ways and Alicia Key's wonderful vocals, this non-single is catching on everywhere. (Especially if the Yankees are making it one of their theme songs, and it'll be performed in the World Series). And Hov isn't always so bitter at people, when him and (his 1st Roc Nation artist) Jay Cole get on a "Star is Born", he's giving alil' bit of everybody props. Of course he doesn't forget himself, but, that's all rap is about right? Self Boasting? But I'm not to sure how T.I. feels about the "T.I. litterally wanted to shoot up the charts" line, but he got his props none-the-less.

Following the "I still got it" theme, there's bound to be some slip-ups. And Jay-Z definately has those slip ups. The 1st one, the track with Drake, with "Off That. With the Timberland futuristic back-drop and Drake on the hook, it has the theme of the previous banger with Swizz Beats "On To The Next". So, with the same theme, it seems pointless as to why it's on the album, and when comparing the two, chances are you might skip this song.

Now I don't know should I be mad at Jay for putting this song on the CD, or letting Kanye's crazy ass for talking him into making the song, but the song "Haters" is made for no haters... Because most of the world hates this song. And his final song, I get it, I get the point of "Forever Young", but it reminded me of some Peter Pan type shit. I would think this song is more fit for Mariah Carey, not Jay-Z.

"You could, choose to, sit infront of your computer, posing with guns shootin' with YouTube up. Or you could come with me to the white house, get your suit up, you stuck on being hardcore I chuck the duece up... Welcome to the BluePrint... Jay-Z your tutor."

The other theme Jay slips into the CD was the "I'm successful, you should be too" theme. From the 1st song to the last, you'll hear brag about something. But these things that are bragged about, aren't what 99% of your rappers are rapping about. Nobody talks about high-fiving his own players and hitting the president up on the Black Berry, lol. But anyway, this is most apparent on the Pharrell laced "So Ambitious." And there is no point in this song where it's bad, because old school Pharell is in here, not punk-rock-Pharell.

All in all, this CD, at 1st listen, youll be confused. But the CD will grow on you, and like the million that's bought the CD, it'll keep growing on you. Although no classic, and it's a CD pop-culture loves, but your hardcore hip hoppers will jam this CD too. At most, maybe 4 songs skipped. We'll see if Hov can continue this dominance, until then, enjoy the BluePrint 3, because I am :)

PS. I know I didn't mention it, but "Venus VS Mars" is that ish yall. Peace.

Hieroglyphics x Capcom x Live Tour

Hieroglyphics and Capcom have teamed up to bring a dope idea to the forefront. It's gonna be a mixtape/soundtrack to the ever-famed Marvel V. Capcom 2! Here's some more details from the officials:

For too long gamers have been bludgeoned by grating, repetitive game soundtracks. Capcom has answered their prayers and exceeded expectations by assembling the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Hip Hop Mixtape. The lead video from the Mixtape- "Battle Drum"- is provided by legendary Oakland hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics. Directed by Andrew Georgopolous and Paul Trillo, the video pays tribute to Capcom's rich history in the gaming industry by evoking classic Street Fighter imagery, as the rapping protagonists take down henchmen in a variety of settings, including a junkyard and a dojo. Tajai was thrilled with the video- "it's got some live action and mimics the video game itself. It’s not just us rapping, it puts us inside the game." Tajai says that the action was so intense, in fact, that "we had to tone it down for the final cut because it was too violent. We were really fighting behind the scenes." The track was produced by Domino, and features verses by Tajai, Casual, and Pep Love. With a catchy chorus, belted out powerfully by Tajai ("Hands, feet, 'bo’s, teeth, knees. Even the words I speak cut deep."), there can be no doubt that "Battle Drum" was perfectly crafted for a fighting game like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The song, with its infectious chorus and pugilistic verses, will be instrumental in motivating gamers to crush their opponents. The video features cameos by Hieroglyphics members Del The Funky Homosapien, A- Plus (and his son, who features at the beginning of the video), and Phesto, as well as Capcom's own John Diamonon.

Sounds crazy legit right?? Maybe they'll perform some of these cuts on tour, as Souls of Mischief are traveling the world as we speak! They'll be here in Seatown very soon. Peep the calendar for the town nearest you and get hip.

SHYNE PO COMING HOME YALL!!!

AFTER NINE LOOOOOONG YEARS!!! Guess who's comin' back home...

And Guess who should probably be worried....

But Diddy's not worried, or at least that's the public face he's putting on. This is what he said according to AllHipHop.

I looked forward to this day. The whole situation was a tragic situation. He’s a young man that has a whole life ahead of him to live to be successful and to come out here and put his foot in the game....

I don’t have anything to do with his personal business or his career, Combs told AllHipHop.com. As far as our relationship, only time will tell.
Rumors have also swirled around about him being signed to Roc Nation with Jay-Z, but Jay-Z shot those rumors down, or at least not yet anyway.

Wayback Wednesday: Nick Drake - Pink Moon

Pink Moon is a GREAT song, although you can hear how hollow his voice is. There is alot more to Nick Drake than it seems off the songs I've posted thus far. Check out the bio..

As per Wiki:"

Nicholas Rodney "Nick" Drake (19 June 1948 – 25 November 1974) was an English singer-songwriter and musician best known for his haunting, acoustic, autumnal songs. His primary instrument was the guitar, although he was also proficient at piano, clarinet, and saxophone. Although he failed to find a wide audience during his lifetime, Drake's work has grown steadily in stature, to the extent that he now ranks among the most influential English singer-songwriters of the last 50 years.[2][3][4]

Drake signed to Island Records when he was 20 years old and released his debut album, Five Leaves Left, in 1969. By 1972, he had recorded two more albums — Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. None of the albums sold more than 5,000 copies on their initial release.[5] His reluctance to perform live or be interviewed further contributed to his lack of commercial success. Despite this, he was able to gather a loyal group of fans who would champion his music. One such person was his manager, Joe Boyd, who had a clause put into his own contract with Island Records that ensured Drake's records would never go out of print.

He suffered from depression and insomnia throughout his life, and these topics were often reflected in his lyrics. Upon completion of his third album, 1972's Pink Moon, he withdrew from both live performance and recording, retreating to his parents' home in rural Warwickshire. On 25 November 1974, Drake died from an overdose of amitriptyline, a prescribed antidepressant; he was 26 years old.

There was residual interest in Drake's music through the mid-1970s, but it was not until the 1979 release of the retrospective album Fruit Tree that his back catalogue came to be reassessed. By the mid-1980s, Drake was being credited as an influence by such artists as Robert Smith and Peter Buck. In 1985, The Dream Academy reached the UK and US charts with "Life in a Northern Town", a song written for and dedicated to Drake.[6] By the early 1990s, he had come to represent a certain type of 'doomed romantic' musician in the UK music press, and was frequently cited by artists including Kate Bush, Paul Weller, and The Black Crowes.[7] Drake's first biography was written in 1997, and was followed in 1998 by the documentary film A Stranger Among Us. In 2000, Volkswagen featured the title track from Pink Moon in a television advertisement, and within a month Drake had sold more records than he had in the previous thirty years."

Wayback Wednesdays: Nick Drake - Fly

Sufjan Stevens sounds alot like this cat too. This is some super smooth music. It smells of rich mahogany.

Wayback Wednesday: Nick Drake - Day is Done

From one Drake to another. The story of Nick Drake is a bittersweet one. This music is surely timeless though. I'll go into the details in a few posts, but for now just enjoy the music!

Bill Maher to Obama - "It's time to be an asshole."

I must say, I've always said he should be alittle more mean at times. Other than that Bill Maher makes all valid points.

Obama ridin' with Taylor

Boy, you know you messed up if Obama is talkin' 'bout ya..

But I will say this, after watching the Jay Leno clip, and Jay brought up his mother, I actually thought he started to really feel sorry then. His blog apology didn't seem like one, but after Leno, I believe he really felt humbled. She claims he hasn't personally reached out to her yet, but maybe he's just tryna find a way to say it. So for ONCE, Kanye might be over-lookin' his ego.

Here's the Jay Leno apology for those who hasn't seen it.

50 has nothing else to do with his money - Flight 187 Video

I didn't get a chance to throw in my headphones to get the full effect of the beat. Once you get past that I'm a Rider x 10 part in the beginnin' it actually gets to be kinda good. Sounds semi-Ferrari-F, so I can deal with that.

"Flight 187" is gonna be on the 50th Law Of Power mixtape, which is also gonna be the title of his new book. I like the 48 Laws of Power book, and the original author is helping 50 pen this book, so I am actually interested in it.

A Fresh BreakDown - SlaughterHouse

"To many critics seems to be silly, to many frogs go ribbit but never leave lillys" - Joel Ortiz

Slaughterhouse slaughterhouse slaughterhouse. This group has been setting the underground a-blaze for a minute. Loaded with no lack-luster rappers on their roster, it's filled with all kinda lyrical goodness that the lyricist fan would love to hear. But, can these four co-exist to make a good album?

The cd starts off with Royce comparing the group to Voltron, basically saying when they get together, it's nothing that's gonna stop them. As far as this track goes, I think Joel Ortiz stole the show, after the break down... Well, maybe I wasn't hip on game, but I didn't know Joel had Twista / Bone Thugs potential in 'em. In this song, they also show that they know where they're good at and not, for example. At the tail, Joe Budden, after the breakdown, Joey didn't dare try to rhyme like he could go Busta Rhymes at any moment. He just threw in an extra few syllables and kept it moving.

But leave it to Joey still throw a personal agenda into a song or two. Now mind you, everyone does a wonderful job in the song "Microphone", but Joe seems to take some more shots at Wu-Tang and Jay-Z (and he claims the beef is 2 years old, whatever). When you say things like ..

"Treat old timers like fags who drop the soap, might got Alzheimer's, forgot that they was dope, to many dogs not enough barkin' yet, to many BLUEPRINTS not enough ARCHITECTS, ... Still every bar's a mess, fuck record sales or who the machine markets best!" - Joe Budden

Uhm, you might get a response, but regaurdless if it was tapping up anybody in general, it was still a fresh ass song, lol.
The group takes a shot at a "commercial" track, and it actually went well for them. "The One" has some heavy guitar assistance, and drums accompany them as they talk about a party life. But it's pretty obvious, at least to me, that Crooked I ran away with this one, easily the most entertaining verse.

"I'm the one who wants to Spear Brittany, give Pink some black and put it near kidneys, here kitty! " - Crooked I

It's really not alot of concept in this CD, more so of alot of what people expected, just good lyrics laced in with sick ass beats. But, about 11 songs in, with alil' help from Pharohe Monch, these four made a classic track called "Salute Me". And you will salute them after hearing that song.

The group continues to dig into the concept that was lack-luster in the beginning. Talking about struggles going unnoticed by God, with accompaniment with the organ in the background. It gives it an Erie feel. Your standout here would easily be Royce here, because he didn't talk on the struggle, he spoke on more of how it's gonna be bad for 'em and why. Much different road that everyone else took.
"When I die, God ain't gonna judge, he gonna deal with us" - Royce Da 5'9

They give us two more songs with pretty good concept, and end it back on a lyrical note. Now, although this CD is a treat for the underground listeners, the CD will leave you feeling just a little sour. Why? Because it very short, and when you consider the fact that it's four of them sharing one song, it seems like it goes by pretty quick. Also, having 3 different interludes doesn't help the length of the CD. But otherwise, if you want a CD you here you can practically go into non-skip mode, and you appreciate good lyrics, you can't pass this CD up.

Oh, and just to keep in the spirit of competition that this Hip Hop genre keeps itself in..
Crooked I won. Lol. Feel good about that you West Coast, and NorthWest people.

The coldest rap commercial ever - Jay-Z Rhapsody commercial

So, I take it we'll see more of these types of commercials. This 'ish was dope though, nuthin' will beat the Jay-Z albums, I'm sure =!= will try to throw out the Nas catalog, but.... NAAAAA! Lol.
