Mariners Finally Release Sexson
NBC Sports
The sunken Seattle Mariners finally released slugger Richie Sexson after a slump that lasted for most of two seasons and made him a target of constant booing from frustrated fans.
The Mariners would have loved to have been able to trade Sexson, but his $14 million salary this season made that nearly impossible. So now Seattle is eating the rest of that money in what may be the first of multiple moves to rid the last-place team of underperforming veteran players.
It's gotten so bad. One bar in Seattle used to offer the price of a beer for whatever Sexson's batting Average was (Norms)
The normal price of a bud was $3.25 but when the Sexson promotion started it was down the $1.54. The price fluctuated daily but never rose above $2.12.
Cheers, Sexson. This bud's for you!

Ken Griffey Jr. Breaks 600 HR Mark.

AP - Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 600th home run on Monday night, completing his long ascent and becoming the sixth player in history to reach that milestone.
The Cincinnati Reds outfielder homered off Florida lefty Mark Hendrickson in the first inning. Griffey joined Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Sammy Sosa.
The 38-year-old homered with Jerry Hairston on third and one out. The left-handed swinger launched a 3-1 pitch 413 feet into the right-field seats...
..His game is so well-rounded that he was voted an All-Century outfielder with Seattle before his 30th birthday. By then, his backward cap and light-up smile were the face of baseball.
His statistics were setting the pace, too. When Griffey was traded to his hometown team before the 2000 season, he was significantly ahead of Aaron’s record home run pace.
Edit by Drew: Mike and I were talking yesterday about how sick the Griffey's were. I decided I had to go find a picture to throw up and reminisce.
